11 1/2 months- it's been a while!

Clearly, it's been too long since I blogged.  It's been wild and crazy and SO much in our lives have changed changed changed!!!

In my last post, I mentioned that my nursing was struggling a little and my milk production seemed a little less than optimum.  Well, come to find out- I am pregnant again!  So, yeah- there ya go!  We are so excited and scared at the same time!  The girls (yep- another girl) will be only 16 months apart!

Here are some updates on little Miss Addison- who is almost ONE!!!!!!!

Personality
What a killer personality.  I have heard people describe their children as "my comedian" "my silly one" "the serious one" etc... I think Addison is our Silly One.  We'll see :) She is so incredibly smiley and happy all the time.

Breastfeeding
We had to stop around 8 months (in March/April).  My supply was dwindling and I was unable to produce enough at work while she was at the sitter all day.  It was enough to finally make me think- maybe I DO need to take a pregnancy test... and I did.  And, it was positive.  I was determined to continue to BF through the pregnancy, but it did not work out very well.  I was giving her one bottle per day of Almond Milk.  She wasn't completely up on that, so I finally broke down and gave her Earth's Best Organic Formula.  She liked that much better.  We started with the sitter feeding, then the feeding when I picked her up each day, then finally the night time and rise and shine feedings.

Waketime Length
First wake time is 1.5-2.25 hrs.
Next 3 hours
Last 4 hours or until bedtime

Naps
She;s great at it.  She still wakes sometimes at the 40-60 min mark, but will most always go back to sleep in less than 5 minutes.  If not, I try to give her up to 15 minutes before I go in and give in. Her morning nap is either an hour fifteen or its two hours. Then, the afternoon nap is the flip of the time from the morning.

Nighttime Sleep
11-12 hours. Although, it seems that no matter when we put her down, she is awake at 7:05.  Sleeps great great great!  We are so blessed to have a good sleeper!  (though many would say that comes from all those hours of sleep training)

Solids
Everywhere we go, people tell me how good of an eater she is! I couldnt even begin to tell you all the things that she likes and gobbles up when given the chance!  Mangoes, bananas, apples, pears, grapes, cauliflour, broccoli, carrots, not much she doesnt eat!!

Growth
Not totally sure, but she has got to be 30+ inches now. and She is 20 pounds.  About long enough to grow out of her baby car seat!!

Outings and Events
Well, there have been so many, I don't even think I could update you on that!  She went on a field trip circling Georgia with me, we spent a week with nanna in jacksonville, She stayed with her Nanna one night with no Mommy OR Daddy while I was at a cheer conference and Joe had to work!  She and Joe went to Decatur for one night with no Mommy.  Next week will be MY first time being away from her more than one night as it's time for cheer camp.  Grammie K is headed our way.

Milestones/Skills
We have long surpassed crawling and even pulling up.  Lately our newest tricks are standing up with notihng to pull up on, and taking 2-5 steps to and from Mommy and Daddy with NO help!  We are days away from Walking!!!

25 week summary

Personality
Demanding! She will absolutely pitch a stomp-your-feet-scream-at-the-top-of-your-lungs type of fit!  She doesn't want to be put down and she definitely doesn't want you to walk away from her.

Breastfeeding
Continues to go well.  I am still worried about my milk supply though.  I will likely soon start taking Fenugreek.  She seems to be satisfied when nursing, but I am not pupmping as much as she is eating while I am at work.  However, she did have a TERRIBLE time nursing Friday morning.  I thought she might have chapped lips or a crick in her neck.  I wasn't quite sure what the problem was, but we soon found out she had a very high fever and was sick.  More later...

Waketime Length
Almost all are 2 hours now.  Even her first morning wake time.  however, after going back to the sitter, she is barely sleeping at all there.  Two days this week, she had 50 mnutes of sleep and 1:10 sleep.  That made her a real pill at night, but I trust that Carla is trying.  She even let Addison cry it out on the second day (at my request).  She let her go 20 minutes, then rescued her. I can respect that- its so hard to listen to her scream!

Naps
While at the sitter, she does aweful, but when she is at home, naps seem to go well.  Htey are still sometimes only 1.5 hours instead of 2-2.5 as I would like, but every now and then she will suprise us and throw a 2.5 hour nap in there!  Those are nice :)  Because one or the other of us is away all day, we continue to hold her during her cat naps.  This week, she was hard to wake up from those.

Nighttime Sleep
Barring the issues with her sickness this weekend, her night time sleep has been awesome.  She goes to sleep around 7 and wakes around 5:30-6:30.  She continues to pull the bumper pad down on her face in order to sleep.  It is so funny- she sleeps in the craziest positions.  This week, we took out one of the two pillows from the crib.  Next week, we plan to take away the second.

Solids
The only new solid we introduced this week was Plums.  I don't eat plums, so I am not sure what they are supposed to taste like, but judging by her face, this batch is a little bit bitter.  She also contiued to eat oatmeal, rice, butternut squash, avacado, and bananas.  She didn't eat well Friday or Saturday because she was sick.  She turned her nose up at most feedings.

Growth
None that I know.

Outings/Events
This week was rough.  I had to be out of the house every night from Tuesday to this coming Monday!  That has been hard on Joe.  Especially when she got sick.

Sick... Friday morning, she woke up and didn't want to eat, which is completely not like her as she usually sucks it down first thing in the morning!  Joe and I tried everything we could think of to make her happy, but she just kept crying.  He stayed home with her that day, and said that she didn't want ot eat much throughout the day.  At some point that night, he put his head to hers, and it was on FIRE!  He took her temperature and it was around 103!  She has never had a fever that high, so understandably, he freaked out a little, and of course I was in a gym with NO cell service.  Doubly unfortunate... I had the tylenol with me in my bag.  So, he loaded up and went to walmart, but all they had was ibuprofin.  Her night that night was AWFUL!  I finaly ended up sleeping with her in my arms all night on the couch.  Saturday, we gave her acetomenaphin twice.  She didn't seem to want to sleep.  Again, I slept with her in my arms.  We did make it to church, and I had her sit in the balcony wth me.  She fell asleep when I put the nubby blanketover her face and swayed.  She stayed asleep or at least calm throughout the service. I know it's not part of week 25, but her fever finally broke, which is good because I was determined not to give her any more medicine- a. because I don't like it and b. I think the sugar in it made her not sleep! She went down Sunday night, but woke at 1:45 and would not settle, so I moved her to the couch.

Also of note with the sickness- I tried the cut onion in her sock to see if it would draw out the heat, but after 45 minutes, I couldnt see a difference, in fact her temperature was higher.  I am not opposed to trying it again, but I wasn't impressed.

I have been treating with Red Rock Naturals "Cold and Flu"

Milestones/Skills
Sitting up is going much better.  I still don't walk away with nothing behind her, but it has definitely improved in just a week's time!

Wonder Weeks
This week wasn't one, but I just read today that 26 weeks should be one, but it can start early and last for 4-5 weeks!!!!! Oh Boy!!! So, someo f this clingyness and tantrum throwing may be related to an early onset of Wonder Week 26.  Say a prayer before this week gets going, haha!

24 week summary

GROWTH SPURT!

Personality
Addison continues to have a lively personality!  She still shows her temper quickly and LOUDLY! While she still does GREAT going places with lots going on.  But, we are facing some new challenges.  She has started to realize when Mommy and Daddy walk out of the room.  She will quickly let you know if she has noticed us not around.  Over Christmas Break, I was with her day in and day out.  I was very nervous about sending her back to Ms Carla, but she did ok.  A little clingy, but overally good.  Then, we had a snow..WEEK! I got to be with her for an extra FOUR days!  That was such a blessing.  But, now- I am starting to see that she is completely attached to Me, Joe, and Carla.  She is not doing well at the church nursery, at all!  Neither of us had any idea that we would have Addison not wantt to stay with others since she goes to strangers so easily.  But- from what I have read- a lot of this is age.

Nursing
She has become quite distractable during feeding.  If Joe is moving around the room at all, she is unlatched and looking around.  She has also quit unlatching before she pulls back off of my breast- OUCH! We clusterfed this week for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday- so I believe she is taking in about 7-9 ounces per feeding, but since she hasn't been to away from me much this week, it's hard to tell.

Waketime Length
First wake time is about an hour and a half, while the rest are almost always spot on 2 hours.

Naps
Addi continues to not be a great napper consistently.  There are still times where she will sleep two and a half hours, but there are other times where she will only sleep an hour and a half.  But, we have pretty much cut out the 45 minute intruder when we are at home.  I think that is due to blacking out the windows.  I base that on the fact that she still wakes at about 40 minutes when she is with Carla.

Nighttime Sleep
I think we have FINALLY figured it out!!! One night, she just didn't see tired enough for bed, so I rocked her in the dark living room until she seemed drowsy.  Then, I went to the bedroom, sang the song and put her down- without a PEEP! This was during week 23, I think.  We think she just needed some wind down time, since bath time is so happy for her.  It seems to be working consistently.  The only struggle we have had is that some nights she wouldnt get that swimming eye look, and we would lay her down anyway and she would cry and cry and cry... It almost felt like we were starting over.  But, I just didn't want us to be doing all the work FOR her.  This week, she cried it out for an hour one night, twenty minutes the next, and silent the next.  So- praying that we are really in a good rhythm now.  Next baby- we are going to do true blue CIO sooner.  It's just always something... growth spurt, wonder week, teething... never ends!

She sleeps from about 7:15-6:00.

Growth
We did have a growth spurt this week.  I feel like that kid weighs a ton :) She is getting so grown-up (in a baby sort of way).  I am very anxious to see what her height and weight are at our appt on Feb 2nd.

Outings/Events
SSSSNNNNOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!!! We had so much snow this week, my classes were cancelled Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, AND Thursday! Happy Mommy! Happy Addi! Happy Daddy! Monday we trekked around in the snow with Addison in the carrier under my jacket.  Mommy and Daddy tubbed down the Home on the Hill hill.  Addison was very unsure about all this freezing cold stuff! She had a very serious look on her face the whole time we were out :) Thursday night, we went to our old Small Group dinner.  She was up extra late that night.

Solids
I have been trying to up her food intake a little and offer more variety.  In the mornings, I give her commercial organic oatmeal and a new food (same for 3 days), then at dinner I give herrice and a veggie or a fruit we have already had before.  This week, we tried prunes because she had some very solid poo nuggets.  The prunes have mushed it up a little.  I used commercial organic prunes made by Plum Organics.  I like the packaging and the purity of this product! We also had some sweet potato, butternut squash, and pears this week.

Skills/Milestones
We are working hard on sitting unassisted. She can do it, but its not solid enough for us to leave her alone while doing so.  I'll let her fall to the side and roll, but I don't like to let her fall backwards on her own.

She is pushing up and strengthening her arms really well.  Today and yesterday, she started really pushing up on her legs too.  Even though today is part of week 25, I don't want to forget this- she got up on all fours before bathtime and rocked for a brief moment.

We are pretty sure that her second tooth is coming in this week.  She was really distracted while nursing today and cried out like it was hurting her to eat.

Her favorite trick right now is serious raspberries and spitting.  She might be in the middle of crying and start blowing spit and distract herself briefly, it's pretty funny!

I don't remember what week she started it, but she also throws her arms around and seemingly hugs us.  Precious!

Schedule
5:30-5:45 (unfortunately) wake and nurse
7:00 nap
9:00-9:30 wake
9:45 nurse
10:00 solids (cereal and our newest food)
11:30 nap
1:30 wake
2:00 nurse
4:00 nap
5:30 wake
5:45-6:00 nurse
6:00 solids (rice and a veggie or an "older" food)
6:30 bath
6:45 dry and lotion
7:00 rock time
7:10-7:15 down for the count!

I think that's all for now.  We are just so in love with her.  Really and truly more each day than the day before!

12-27-10

So, right after I posted last night- of course she changed things up on me last night and today :)

Down last night at 7:00 and she cried for about 20 or so minutes
Stirred at 3:30, 4:something, and 5:05, but settled. So- NO EARLY MORNING SNACK!
6:00 bf + 4 ounces from the bottle bc I pumped at 5:15 when I saw she was going back to sleep- I was engorged, 1 hr 40 mins wake time
7:40 down silently
8:45- she woke, and Joe got her up- not realizing that she had only neen down an hour. So, we put her in the bed with me while I was napping.
10:00 woke hapy & bf, 2 hour wake time
12:00 down with about 2 minutes of wimpering.,
1:15 woke, fussy- after fifteen mins of trying to soothe- Joe changed her diaper to distract.  She had a small amount of poop stuck.  We figured that the bananas finally kicked in and she was constipated.  Gave her some tummy tonic & I tried to go ahead and breast feed (around 1:45 by now), but she was not interested, continued fussing.  We chalked it up to her tummy hurting.  I rocked her and she finally went to sleep a bit longer.
2:30, i woke her to bf.  Was still fussy, but happier than before.  played at home for a little while, then went to Walmart.  Fell asleep around 5:00 and woke at 5:45 when we got to Las Palmas.
6:00 started to fuss some, so I tried to give her some avacodo from the table, but I couldnt get it fine enough, it wasnt mixed with milk and it was cold... three strikes in A's book.
6:15 bf at home, then checked diaper- full and thicker than normal
Tried more avacado warmed and with milk... still not interested.
So, I tried sweet potatoes instead... still not interested in eating.
I was really frustrated- she wouldnt eat AND she was laying over in her Bebe Pod and would NOT sit up!  had to keep reminding myself that her tummy was upset earlier.
In bed by 7:10, cried until about 7:45 :(

22 Weeks

In hindsight, I believe that Miss Addison's new skills- squealling and spit bubbles can possibly be chalked up to teething.  That's right- On Thursday night, Sammie had her finger in Addison's mouth and said she felt a tooth.  We thought she was exaggerating on how well Addison chomps down, but sure enough, I felt in her mouth the next day- and there was a TOOTH! It's small and just breaking hte surface, but our baby girl has got herfirst tooth!  It is the bottom right front tooth.  So, All I want for Chrstmas is my two front teeth... she got one!

Not only did she see that song come to fruition... she got to see a WHITE Christmas!  I have never had one in my lifetime!  According to the Weather Channel, the last measurable snow on Christmas Day was 1882... that's 128 years of no white Chrstmases!!! I know she wont remember it, but we got a couple of cute little pictures.

Once we returned from Nanna and Pappa's house, we worked back towards a schedule, and it seems to be working.  On Wednesday night, she cried for an hour, on Thursday, only twenty minutes, then on Friday- we got home late because of Christmas Eve Dinner, she was over-tired, but still only cried and wimpered for about 30 mintues off and on.  Last night, on Christmas Day, she cried for a little while, but not too bad.  Tonight, she cried off and on for thirty minutes again.

Feeding Updates: Tried Banana for the first time on Christmas Morning.  She was not quite sure what to think about it (its the first one that I have not warmed up at all, and there was no warm milk mixrd in).  Today, I pushed it through a mesh strainer to get an extra fine texture, and she seemed to like that better.  On Christmas Eve, I tried to bring back avacado for dinner.  But, I think that it was not quite ripe enough.  It was ver difficult to mash and Joe tasted it and said it didn't taste quite right, so she didn't eat very much that night.  So, while the other two Avacados ripen, we will finish off the sweet potatoes that I baked earlier this week.

Schedule:
4:00-5:00 sometime- wakes to have a snack for some extra caolories.  Worried about this one  a little.  Since it is varying times, I am thinking it is still hunger.  I've read that when it goes to a constant time of wake, it is habitual.
6:00/6:30 breast feeds
1-1.5 hour of wake time
7:30/8 down for a nap with very little crying if any
9:30/10:00 breast feeds, then eats solids (bananas this week)
1 hour 40 minutes of wake time
11:40 or so- down for a nap with 5 or so minutes of crying
1:45 or so- wakes
2:00 breast feeds
cat nap at some point, or a full nap- just depending on how her previous sleep has been
6:00 breast feeds, then eats solids (avacado or sweet potatoes)
6:30 bath
6:45 lotion, sing, bed by 7

Just a side note- she had some serious redness and scaley-ness on her trunk for a long time.  We had put sesame oil on it daily to no avail.  Joe asked Dr. Cordle about it at her four month appointment, and she wasn't terribly worried about it.  She made some suggestions, but they were all things we were pretty much doing right- natural soap, not bathing every day, she did suggest using hte sesame oil without the lavendar in it though.  So we tried that for a few days.  Then, shortly after the appointment, we were at my mom's house.  She gave us some Pau D'Arco lotion.  It was a miricle lotion!!!!! Her body feels so smooth and looks great!  I am so impressed.  I believe in the things my mom promotes, but this was an INSTANT improvement! Great News :)

21 weeks... Baby's First Christmas

It's been a while since I posted, so I will just put in some of the biggies that I have not been able to update about...
17 weeks- dropped the dream feed!
11-21-10 Sunday- Addison rolled back to belly
18 weeks- moved herself to a four hour schedule
19 weeks- started solid foods! Friday 12/10 tried homemade brown rice cereal and LOVED it!
20 weeks- Learned how to SQUEAL/SCREAM! Started blowing extreme spit bubbles!
Baby's First Thanksgiving- at the Masters' house.  Big crew!!! 12-18 Tried Avacado for the first time! Loved it, too!
21 weeks- spent several days out of town.  Met the Sheperd side of the family.  Because of travel... she was ill as a hornet!!! But, everyone said how beautiful she was :)  Added Rice Cereal to morning routine.  Avacado in the evenings with a side of a little rice creal.  (RC from the box while we are on vaca)

Here is our current schedule when at home.  We are still working on naps and wake times.  Its just really hard to regulate with the different people that keep her through the week.  Also, she is having some problems with waking early.  From what I can tell, she is waking early because of a decrease in calories as she has moved to a four hour schedule.  Here is our most recent schedule...
5:00 wakes screaming.  Trying a mini feed and straight back down to bed.
6:30 breastfeed- maybe rice cereal here?
10:30 breastfeed or 5 ounces- maybe rice cereal here?
2:30 breastfeed or 6 ounces
6:00 breastfeed, solids
7:00 in bed.

She is at a point now where she does pretty good with bed time.  Sometimes, not a peep, but other times she does CIO for a while... 30 mins or so.  We also have got her doing CIO if she wakes in the night.  She wakes up and cries for either exactly 10 minutes or exactly 20 mins.  But, since we let her cio at those times, she most recently has been sleeping all the way through the night.  Well, that is until the early a.m. wake times.  But, from what I have read that is common with babies around 4 months old because of adjusting to a longer schedule and a decrease in breastmilk calorie intake.

Her temperment is so funny right now!  My newest names for her are turtle and Addi Jo! Turtle is because she has started arching her back and leaning as far back as she can to see what's around her and to show us that she's mad!  It amazes me how she can turn that neck.  Sometimes she moves her way up to the corner of her crib and falls asleep with her neck all crooked up in the corner! Somehow, she levels back out.  Addi Jo because she is starting to show that she not only LOOKS just like her Daddy, but she acts like him too :) Joe said she was laying under her jungle gym and pulled down the monkey (that is supposed to get pulled down).  Then, she decided she wanted to hold the toucan.  Well... he is attached.  He said that she pulled so hard that she almost pulled the whole thing down on top of her!  then squealed when she couldnt get it!  That's his girl alright!!

A couple of little stories...

After we returned from Thanksgiving, we decided that we had to drop the swaddle bcause she was rolling over in it and we thought that was dangerous since she would not be able to hold her head up if this happened and her arms were wrapped up.  Anyway- because of being sick, rolling over, and dropping the swaddle... we had been spoiling her at sleep times.  We would hand-rock her and shhhhh her.  She was beginning to depend on it.  So, we decided it was absolutely necessary for us to start doing cry-it-out again... One night Joe and I were at our wits ends!  He decided to go in and try to help her fall asleep once more.  He put his elbows in her crib and put his head in his hands.  She reached up and put both of her hands on his hands.  He looked up at her and she gently moved one hand to her Daddy's cheek!  So stinkin cute!!! That's our angel!

Last week, Joe and I walked by her room when she was taking one of her awesome naps.  She was in a light sleep cycle and she was reaching up towards the crib bumper.  She was grabbing for the top of it!  She finally got it and was sleeping holding on to it and even pulling it down towards her face.  While I breastfeed her, she reaches up for my face and grabs at my bra straps or the shirt I have on.  SO I think that's where this is coming from.

That reminds me... While we were in Metter and Jacksonville for Thankgiving... Addison was waking and getting her arms out of her swaddle.  She would take her hand and reach for the screening on her pack n play.  She was scratching it like a cat!  We were cracking up at it!!!

We have also discovered that Addison likes to sleep with her face right on the bumper pad.  We would put her down in the middle of her crib and she would owrk her way over to the bumper pad.  Joe had an epiphany one day and figured out that it must be like the same sensation she feels she is held in our arms and her face is on our shirt! Smart man, my hubby!

Lastly, she reaches up for my face all the time now.  While I am feeding her, she will reach up and touch my lips or my chin.  It is the sweetest thing I have ever seen!  She was having trouble sleeping in the pack n play this trip down to Metter.  So, I put her in the bed beside us and she reached over touched my face and fell right to sleep!  ANGEL.  How in the world am I ever going to want to put her back in her own bed, haha!

Week 14 Summary

This week has FLOWN by!
A lot of it probably has to do with it being Region week for Cheerleading.  Good news: We are headed to STATE!  Bad news: I have barely seen my daughter the last three days.  I miss her! Thank God for the work that Joe does with her!  We may get frustrated with each other and stressed about how to best make plans that will suit Addison's schedule, but he is so great with her and loves her so much.

Personality
Addison still loves to be active, she gets very bored at home.  She has started holding on to us when we carry her, which is sweet.

Nursing
She has gotten very efficient, often taking less than 20 minutes to drain me.  I hope that this means that she is efficient, and not that I don't have enough.  At some feedings, she acts like she is not interested in eating for long.  She acts somewhat like she has bad gass or is full- but she stays fussy afterwards.

Waketime Length
We are still trying to get this honed.  An hour fifteen to an hour and a half is our goal.

Nighttime Length
This week, we have tried to be consistent with eating around 7:30, and going down around 8:30.  Then, I dream feed her around 10:30 or 11, depending on whether or not I have dorm duty.  Then, she stays asleep until 6:30.  There are a couple of exceptions through the night where she will whimper and would likely break into a full out cry, but we usually go in and re-insert paci, and shhhh her for a couple of minutes.  This either helps for the rest of the night, or sometimes we have to go in every twenty minutes for an hour.  Those are hard nights.  As soon as she stops doing those little wakenings, we will start moving towards dropping the dream feed.

Growth
I have no idea if she has grown or not "officially" but she seems sooo long right now!  When I switch sides while nursing, it seems that her body is SO long compared to what I am used to!

Swaddling
Still using the Swaddle Me blanket.  She still gets really mad when we use it, but I am still believing that it keeps her asleep!

No Wonder Week

Our Schedule
6:30 wake/eat/get ready
7:15 leave for the sitter
10:00 eat
1:00 eat
3:30/4 eat
6:30/7 eat
7:30 bath and bed routine down by 8:30

Outings/Events
Friday I had a very busy cheer day.  Addison was with Daddy ALL day long!  I encouraged him to take her out of the house so that the two of them don't go crazy!  They ended up going down to Cherokee to see Pops, and eat lunch at Zorbas.  Then, before bedtime, they went to see Grandma and Grandpa Butler.

Helpful Books/Websites
no time for books this week!
