12-27-10

So, right after I posted last night- of course she changed things up on me last night and today :)

Down last night at 7:00 and she cried for about 20 or so minutes
Stirred at 3:30, 4:something, and 5:05, but settled. So- NO EARLY MORNING SNACK!
6:00 bf + 4 ounces from the bottle bc I pumped at 5:15 when I saw she was going back to sleep- I was engorged, 1 hr 40 mins wake time
7:40 down silently
8:45- she woke, and Joe got her up- not realizing that she had only neen down an hour. So, we put her in the bed with me while I was napping.
10:00 woke hapy & bf, 2 hour wake time
12:00 down with about 2 minutes of wimpering.,
1:15 woke, fussy- after fifteen mins of trying to soothe- Joe changed her diaper to distract.  She had a small amount of poop stuck.  We figured that the bananas finally kicked in and she was constipated.  Gave her some tummy tonic & I tried to go ahead and breast feed (around 1:45 by now), but she was not interested, continued fussing.  We chalked it up to her tummy hurting.  I rocked her and she finally went to sleep a bit longer.
2:30, i woke her to bf.  Was still fussy, but happier than before.  played at home for a little while, then went to Walmart.  Fell asleep around 5:00 and woke at 5:45 when we got to Las Palmas.
6:00 started to fuss some, so I tried to give her some avacodo from the table, but I couldnt get it fine enough, it wasnt mixed with milk and it was cold... three strikes in A's book.
6:15 bf at home, then checked diaper- full and thicker than normal
Tried more avacado warmed and with milk... still not interested.
So, I tried sweet potatoes instead... still not interested in eating.
I was really frustrated- she wouldnt eat AND she was laying over in her Bebe Pod and would NOT sit up!  had to keep reminding myself that her tummy was upset earlier.
In bed by 7:10, cried until about 7:45 :(

22 Weeks

In hindsight, I believe that Miss Addison's new skills- squealling and spit bubbles can possibly be chalked up to teething.  That's right- On Thursday night, Sammie had her finger in Addison's mouth and said she felt a tooth.  We thought she was exaggerating on how well Addison chomps down, but sure enough, I felt in her mouth the next day- and there was a TOOTH! It's small and just breaking hte surface, but our baby girl has got herfirst tooth!  It is the bottom right front tooth.  So, All I want for Chrstmas is my two front teeth... she got one!

Not only did she see that song come to fruition... she got to see a WHITE Christmas!  I have never had one in my lifetime!  According to the Weather Channel, the last measurable snow on Christmas Day was 1882... that's 128 years of no white Chrstmases!!! I know she wont remember it, but we got a couple of cute little pictures.

Once we returned from Nanna and Pappa's house, we worked back towards a schedule, and it seems to be working.  On Wednesday night, she cried for an hour, on Thursday, only twenty minutes, then on Friday- we got home late because of Christmas Eve Dinner, she was over-tired, but still only cried and wimpered for about 30 mintues off and on.  Last night, on Christmas Day, she cried for a little while, but not too bad.  Tonight, she cried off and on for thirty minutes again.

Feeding Updates: Tried Banana for the first time on Christmas Morning.  She was not quite sure what to think about it (its the first one that I have not warmed up at all, and there was no warm milk mixrd in).  Today, I pushed it through a mesh strainer to get an extra fine texture, and she seemed to like that better.  On Christmas Eve, I tried to bring back avacado for dinner.  But, I think that it was not quite ripe enough.  It was ver difficult to mash and Joe tasted it and said it didn't taste quite right, so she didn't eat very much that night.  So, while the other two Avacados ripen, we will finish off the sweet potatoes that I baked earlier this week.

Schedule:
4:00-5:00 sometime- wakes to have a snack for some extra caolories.  Worried about this one  a little.  Since it is varying times, I am thinking it is still hunger.  I've read that when it goes to a constant time of wake, it is habitual.
6:00/6:30 breast feeds
1-1.5 hour of wake time
7:30/8 down for a nap with very little crying if any
9:30/10:00 breast feeds, then eats solids (bananas this week)
1 hour 40 minutes of wake time
11:40 or so- down for a nap with 5 or so minutes of crying
1:45 or so- wakes
2:00 breast feeds
cat nap at some point, or a full nap- just depending on how her previous sleep has been
6:00 breast feeds, then eats solids (avacado or sweet potatoes)
6:30 bath
6:45 lotion, sing, bed by 7

Just a side note- she had some serious redness and scaley-ness on her trunk for a long time.  We had put sesame oil on it daily to no avail.  Joe asked Dr. Cordle about it at her four month appointment, and she wasn't terribly worried about it.  She made some suggestions, but they were all things we were pretty much doing right- natural soap, not bathing every day, she did suggest using hte sesame oil without the lavendar in it though.  So we tried that for a few days.  Then, shortly after the appointment, we were at my mom's house.  She gave us some Pau D'Arco lotion.  It was a miricle lotion!!!!! Her body feels so smooth and looks great!  I am so impressed.  I believe in the things my mom promotes, but this was an INSTANT improvement! Great News :)

21 weeks... Baby's First Christmas

It's been a while since I posted, so I will just put in some of the biggies that I have not been able to update about...
17 weeks- dropped the dream feed!
11-21-10 Sunday- Addison rolled back to belly
18 weeks- moved herself to a four hour schedule
19 weeks- started solid foods! Friday 12/10 tried homemade brown rice cereal and LOVED it!
20 weeks- Learned how to SQUEAL/SCREAM! Started blowing extreme spit bubbles!
Baby's First Thanksgiving- at the Masters' house.  Big crew!!! 12-18 Tried Avacado for the first time! Loved it, too!
21 weeks- spent several days out of town.  Met the Sheperd side of the family.  Because of travel... she was ill as a hornet!!! But, everyone said how beautiful she was :)  Added Rice Cereal to morning routine.  Avacado in the evenings with a side of a little rice creal.  (RC from the box while we are on vaca)

Here is our current schedule when at home.  We are still working on naps and wake times.  Its just really hard to regulate with the different people that keep her through the week.  Also, she is having some problems with waking early.  From what I can tell, she is waking early because of a decrease in calories as she has moved to a four hour schedule.  Here is our most recent schedule...
5:00 wakes screaming.  Trying a mini feed and straight back down to bed.
6:30 breastfeed- maybe rice cereal here?
10:30 breastfeed or 5 ounces- maybe rice cereal here?
2:30 breastfeed or 6 ounces
6:00 breastfeed, solids
7:00 in bed.

She is at a point now where she does pretty good with bed time.  Sometimes, not a peep, but other times she does CIO for a while... 30 mins or so.  We also have got her doing CIO if she wakes in the night.  She wakes up and cries for either exactly 10 minutes or exactly 20 mins.  But, since we let her cio at those times, she most recently has been sleeping all the way through the night.  Well, that is until the early a.m. wake times.  But, from what I have read that is common with babies around 4 months old because of adjusting to a longer schedule and a decrease in breastmilk calorie intake.

Her temperment is so funny right now!  My newest names for her are turtle and Addi Jo! Turtle is because she has started arching her back and leaning as far back as she can to see what's around her and to show us that she's mad!  It amazes me how she can turn that neck.  Sometimes she moves her way up to the corner of her crib and falls asleep with her neck all crooked up in the corner! Somehow, she levels back out.  Addi Jo because she is starting to show that she not only LOOKS just like her Daddy, but she acts like him too :) Joe said she was laying under her jungle gym and pulled down the monkey (that is supposed to get pulled down).  Then, she decided she wanted to hold the toucan.  Well... he is attached.  He said that she pulled so hard that she almost pulled the whole thing down on top of her!  then squealed when she couldnt get it!  That's his girl alright!!

A couple of little stories...

After we returned from Thanksgiving, we decided that we had to drop the swaddle bcause she was rolling over in it and we thought that was dangerous since she would not be able to hold her head up if this happened and her arms were wrapped up.  Anyway- because of being sick, rolling over, and dropping the swaddle... we had been spoiling her at sleep times.  We would hand-rock her and shhhhh her.  She was beginning to depend on it.  So, we decided it was absolutely necessary for us to start doing cry-it-out again... One night Joe and I were at our wits ends!  He decided to go in and try to help her fall asleep once more.  He put his elbows in her crib and put his head in his hands.  She reached up and put both of her hands on his hands.  He looked up at her and she gently moved one hand to her Daddy's cheek!  So stinkin cute!!! That's our angel!

Last week, Joe and I walked by her room when she was taking one of her awesome naps.  She was in a light sleep cycle and she was reaching up towards the crib bumper.  She was grabbing for the top of it!  She finally got it and was sleeping holding on to it and even pulling it down towards her face.  While I breastfeed her, she reaches up for my face and grabs at my bra straps or the shirt I have on.  SO I think that's where this is coming from.

That reminds me... While we were in Metter and Jacksonville for Thankgiving... Addison was waking and getting her arms out of her swaddle.  She would take her hand and reach for the screening on her pack n play.  She was scratching it like a cat!  We were cracking up at it!!!

We have also discovered that Addison likes to sleep with her face right on the bumper pad.  We would put her down in the middle of her crib and she would owrk her way over to the bumper pad.  Joe had an epiphany one day and figured out that it must be like the same sensation she feels she is held in our arms and her face is on our shirt! Smart man, my hubby!

Lastly, she reaches up for my face all the time now.  While I am feeding her, she will reach up and touch my lips or my chin.  It is the sweetest thing I have ever seen!  She was having trouble sleeping in the pack n play this trip down to Metter.  So, I put her in the bed beside us and she reached over touched my face and fell right to sleep!  ANGEL.  How in the world am I ever going to want to put her back in her own bed, haha!

Week 14 Summary

This week has FLOWN by!
A lot of it probably has to do with it being Region week for Cheerleading.  Good news: We are headed to STATE!  Bad news: I have barely seen my daughter the last three days.  I miss her! Thank God for the work that Joe does with her!  We may get frustrated with each other and stressed about how to best make plans that will suit Addison's schedule, but he is so great with her and loves her so much.

Personality
Addison still loves to be active, she gets very bored at home.  She has started holding on to us when we carry her, which is sweet.

Nursing
She has gotten very efficient, often taking less than 20 minutes to drain me.  I hope that this means that she is efficient, and not that I don't have enough.  At some feedings, she acts like she is not interested in eating for long.  She acts somewhat like she has bad gass or is full- but she stays fussy afterwards.

Waketime Length
We are still trying to get this honed.  An hour fifteen to an hour and a half is our goal.

Nighttime Length
This week, we have tried to be consistent with eating around 7:30, and going down around 8:30.  Then, I dream feed her around 10:30 or 11, depending on whether or not I have dorm duty.  Then, she stays asleep until 6:30.  There are a couple of exceptions through the night where she will whimper and would likely break into a full out cry, but we usually go in and re-insert paci, and shhhh her for a couple of minutes.  This either helps for the rest of the night, or sometimes we have to go in every twenty minutes for an hour.  Those are hard nights.  As soon as she stops doing those little wakenings, we will start moving towards dropping the dream feed.

Growth
I have no idea if she has grown or not "officially" but she seems sooo long right now!  When I switch sides while nursing, it seems that her body is SO long compared to what I am used to!

Swaddling
Still using the Swaddle Me blanket.  She still gets really mad when we use it, but I am still believing that it keeps her asleep!

No Wonder Week

Our Schedule
6:30 wake/eat/get ready
7:15 leave for the sitter
10:00 eat
1:00 eat
3:30/4 eat
6:30/7 eat
7:30 bath and bed routine down by 8:30

Outings/Events
Friday I had a very busy cheer day.  Addison was with Daddy ALL day long!  I encouraged him to take her out of the house so that the two of them don't go crazy!  They ended up going down to Cherokee to see Pops, and eat lunch at Zorbas.  Then, before bedtime, they went to see Grandma and Grandpa Butler.

Helpful Books/Websites
no time for books this week!

10-31-10

Today was an amazing/terrible day!
She slept all night long last night.
She woke up at 6:30 and ate, then she and I played together alone for an hour.  After I put her down, I laid down for a little while and Joe went to work out.
Then, we had Cinnamon Rolls and I fed Addison again around 9:30, then we got ready and went to church.
She did great in the nursery, then we went home and she ate around 12/12:30.  After she finished eating, I could tell she was "working on something" for us.  Since I was still trying to eat my lunch and balance her in my arms, Joe offered to take and change her for me.  After being in her bedroom for a whole 2 seconds, Joe was calling for back up!!! She literally had poop EVERYWHERE!!! It was all the way up to her neck.  I helped him and he put her in the bath while I started soaking laundry.
Then, Joe went to play golf for the afternoon and Addison and I had a very smooth afternoon.

Unfortunately, I had library duty tonight, and I had to rush away at 6:45.  Shortly after I got to the dorm, Joe sent me the message taht made it an amazing/terrible day... "She just rolled over!"  :`( That mad me so sad,  It was the first thing I ever missed!  Luckily though, Here is how it happened... Joe laid her down for Tummy time, then she spit up.  He ran to get a burp cloth, and when he came back- she was laying on her back!!! So, he missed it too!  That made me feel better!  I made him promise that he wouldnt try again until tomorrow morning!

Grr- living here is such a blessing and a curse at the same time!

2 Month Summary (weeks 10-13)

I haven’t written at all since I started back to work L I have been so tired!  I will try to remember all that I can and include it here…
Personality
Oh my goodness- her personality is SO cute!  I am just more and more in love with her every day! She laughs and smiles at us now.  REAL laughs- with sound! It is so cute!  The first time was around 11 weeks, October 16th.  Joe was laying on his back and holding Addison on his knees up in the air.  He would take her hands and swing htem in front of her face and say weeee and she would just laugh and laugh.  Love it! She is also full of energy, smiles, and laughs while we change her diaper.  She loves being naked, haha.
She loves to be held facing out so that she can watch what it going on.  She enjoys going and doing more than being at home.  She is very content when we are out and about.  Very willing to let others hold her, and smiles at them pretty easily.

Nursing.
Nursing is going well.  I got worried for a while that I wasn’t going to be able to pump enough to keep up with her for a while.  I think my frozen supply had dropped down to only 7 bags at one time.  I started really stressing out, but now we are doing well.  It’s hard to get it done like I need to at work, but I am making it work.  For several weeks in this time, she would sleep at my breast regardless of what I did to try to rouse her.  This week, she all of the sudden started staying awake to eat aain.

Waketime Length
It is so hard to be consistent with this considering I keep her on the weekends, Carla keeps her three days, and Joe keeps her two days.  It’s between an hour and an hour and a half for the first two to three cycles of the day, then at night, she is awake and hanging with us most of the time until we start the bed time routine- so about 3-4 hours awake.

Nighttime Length
Well… she went for some time sleeping through the night, then during week 12 (Wonder Week and close to three months which is a growth spurt) she was waking around 12:30 and again around 3:30-5:30) Friday night, I had the football game, so When I fed her at 7:40 and he put her down around 8:30, she woke up around 9:30… he shh’ed her to sleep, and she stayed asleep.  Then, she woke up twice more in the night and he was able to do the same.  She woke up at 5, I fed her and put her back down, and we woke up at 8.  So- that definitely counts as sleeping through the night.  Then last night, she went down at 8:30 and slept until 6:30 this morning.  So, we are back on track with sleeping through the night.

Growth
She sure does feel heavier!  We don’t have any official stats to report, though.  Wearing 3-6 month clothes comfortably with a little room to grow.

Swaddling
It’s back.  After having lunch with Julie a couple of weeks ago, I told her that thought it was too late to go back to the swaddle, but I did sorta think we needed it.  She encouraged me to try it again, so I stopped by Toys R Us and got one of those Velcro Swaddlers… amazing!  (but I will say that we like the organic cotton one better than the other one we bought to go to Carla’s).
Wonder Week
Week 12…. SUCKED.  There is no better way to say it.  She was a PILL!  Week 12 is noticing gradual changes, like light to dim and high to low, etc.  Between that and the pending growth spurt- we had a hard time week 12 and some of the days on either side of it.

Our Schedule
Is a little crazy- again because she is with three different people during the day… but here is a sample on a good day, and what Joe and I are working towards…
6:30 Wake, Eat, Get Ready
7:00 Leave for sitter
9:30/10 Eat
12:30/1 Eat
3:30/4 Eat
7 Eat
8:00 bath and bed

Outings/Events
The weekend of 12/13 we went to Nanna and Pappa’s house to get a swing.  She made the trip to two away games this month and did great.  She has now been to three cheerleading competitions.  Her cheerleading buddy is Kristi Smallwood.  She’s helped me so much so Joe can have a break on Saturdays.  Halloween is today… but we didn’t dress her up.  Does that make me a bad Mommy?  She isn’t going to remember it- I am on duty tonight, and last night we were exhausted from the cheerleading competition… I am sure next year it will be fun!

Helpful Books or Websites
I got a book last weekend called Your Baby’s First Year Week by Week.  I like having it better than the websites that we have been visiting, it has some neat resources in it and gives us a game to play and exercises to do each week

10-5-10

1:30 woke up and wouldn’t settle.  Joe tried for some time (maybe an hour)  to get her to calm down.  He finally put her down to CIO.  After a few minutes, I went in to give her paci again.  This time, she wimpered once more and fell asleep- I don’t think I did anything special, just happened to be the one to go in at the right time.  (I talked to Caren today and was telling her about last night and Sunday night.  She said that since we are not feeding her at these middle of the night awakenings, Addi will likely wean herself off of them rather than us having to do so for her- that was encouraging.  I’d really like her to wean herself off rather than us having to move towards CIO in the middle of the night)
6:30ish (this time is always a little fuzzy for me!) fed her and tried to keep her awake.  Kept her up for a little while and then she went right back down to sleep.
8:45 woke and fed. Slept while at my breast, and I admit- I slept too!  We dozed on the couch with her latched and eating for about an hour.  I then made us get up and change clothes to be able to really wake up.  I put her in the swing while I ate.  Then, I let her play on the blanket with her play yard on the floor for quite a while.  She was very content.  I put her down close to 11:00.  She slept soundly until I woke her at 12.
12:00 I had to wake her up, and she fed.  Afterwards, I put her in the bouncy seat- which she has hardly used to date.  It was nice to carry it from room to room while I sorted laundry and did the dishes.  I didn’t feel confined, and didn’t feel as though I was leaving her on the blanket in the dining room ALL the time! Around 12:55, she started to get fussy, so I kicked it into high gear and we headed out to run errands.  We went to TJ Maxx for me to find some jeans to wear to the Fair tonight, and we went to the grocery store.  She was an angel!  Fell asleep as I was in the fitting room at TJ Maxx and stayed asleep through our entire time at Kroger.  Came home and I put her in the swing to finish her rest/sleep time.
3:00 fed her (awake this time), then got ready for fair. Took her to practice with me until Joe got home.  He got her around 4:45.  She had a 15 minute cat nap while at Cheerleading, so he let her fall back asleep in his arms.
6:00 feeding, then happy for a short amount of time- blanket time with Joe, then fussy.  He said her gas was really bad.  This seems to be common at this time of day.  Very frustrating to know that soon this will be our only family time and she is always in pain and fussy around this time of day L Didn’t get any restful sleep this cycle.
8:30 I came home and made Joe some dinner, and we decided to let her go until 9 with that nap since it had been so poor.
9:00 I pretty much dream fed her.  She would barely wake for burping.  When I put her completely upright on my shoulder/chest, she woke.  I changed her diaper and she was happy as a clam!  We made the executive decision not to do bath time tonight since we were getting started at 9 rather than 8:30.  I sang to her and she was asleep again in my arms.  When I put her down in the crib and sang the last verse- she was about out.  However, we did hear her grunting and squirming some, but no crying at all.
I go back to work tomorrow… I am nervous for me and nervous for she and Joe.  He is keeping her all day.  It will be nearly 12 hours of just Addi and Daddy! Praying all goes well.

9 week Summary

Personality
This is a new one I am adding- I think it will be neat to look back and see how her personality has developed.  This week, she has been laughing so hard that she turns her head from side to side.  It is precious!  She has also started SCREAMING when we change her clothes.  I can tell winter is going to be so much fun!

Nursing
Continues to go well.  She is falling asleep during the first nurse of the day- but then again... so am I, haha.

Waketime Length
I am still playing with this, but I would say that her average in the mornings is about 50 minutes while her average in the afternoons is about an hour and a half.

Nighttime Length
She was getting a dream feed, then waking up around 4 and then I was waking her around 6.  BUT- Friday of this week she SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT for the first time!!! She went from 9:30 to 5:15!!! Thank you Caren for pushing me to do this!

Growth
She had a doctors appointment this wekk and we found out that she is still a little big for her age :) Not quite as advanced in her height, but more in her weight than before.
Height: 23 inches (90th percentile)
Weight: 12 lbs. 12 oz!!!  (90th percentile)
Since I wasnt keeping up this blog at two weeks... the last time we went to the doc, she was about 8 and a half pounds and 21 inches.  This was 97th percentile in weight and about 75th percentile in height.

Swaddling
Out of the swaddle.  I still tuck a blanket around her waist and legs when she needs some cover on her.  Serves two purposes- I dont have to keep coming back in to re cover and it gives her that snugness that swaddling gave.

Wonder Week
not one that I know of.

Our Schedule
I changed it part way through the week.  She was still waking up an hour into her nap, so I didn't think that the shorter waketimes were cutting it. After talking to Caren, I am moving towards a straight three hour schedule.  Having a feeding at 9pm keeps me from doing the dreamfeed- and what do ya know... it ended up helping her sleep through the night.

Outings/Events
No big outings, but Grammie K and Chelsea came for a visit this weekend.

Helpful Books or Websites
trying to figure out where Carrie got the Cloth Diapering trial kit from.  Will let you know if I find it and if they are still offering it.

10-4-10

Not quite as lucky last night.  Glad I haven’t started advertising her sleeping through the night yet…
2:30 woke up.  Joe went in to console her.  She was really yelling off and on and nothing he did seemed to make her feel better- even tried to change diaper.
3:00 I got up and rocked her and sang As the Deer to remind her that it was bedtime.  Finally fell asleep in my arms around 3:20.  I put her in the crib at 3:30.  She of course woke up, I sang one more verse to her and walked away L She CIO-ed for 30 minutes, was finally back asleep by 4.
6:30 she was still asleep and of course I was exhausted so I had not gotten her up at 6 as I am supposed to.  I was debating whether or not to get her then or be bad… she answered that for me- woke up.   I fed her and tried to keep her awake for a little while to play.  Put her back down right around 7:10.  CIO for about 5-10 minutes, I think (its all running together)
9:05 woke to eat, played well for a little while.  I dressed her in pink cordouroy overalls- she looked like such a BIG GIRL all day long!!! I can’t handle it! 10:12 put her down CIO for ten minutes.  But, didn’t sleep all the way through this nap.  Woke around 11:05.  I was in shower, Joe tried to let her CIO, then tried to console- finally put her in swing.  She stared off into space (typical) for a while.  Finally fell asleep but only for a short time, woke back up.
11:45 feeding, wake time. 1:00 put her down and she CIO for only a few minutes. Woke a few times, but went back to sleep
3:00 wimpered, but I went ahead and got her up since it was time to eat. She slept while feeding- a no no, but I was talking to Ashley planning for cheer, so I let her. Then, stayed awake and content for a while at home.  At 4:00, we headed down to cheerleading.  She was happy in stroller, then I picked her up around 4:15.  Joe came and got her from me around 4:30. He walked her for a few minutes and she stayed awake, then he came home and rocked for a VERY short amount of time and she fell asleep.  He laid her down, and she stayed asleep!
5:40 woke up MAD.  We tried to prolong the feeding, but as soon as the bottle was warm, Joe fed her a bottle whle I went back down to run with the cheerleaders.  Ate and then fell asleep on his chest at about 6:45.  Stayed asleep that way on him or me until the next feeding, even thought that one should just be a cat nap.  Must have been tired.
8:15 woke up ready to eat.  I had planned to feed her at 8:30, but since she ate before 6, I figured she could eat before 8:30… might as well bump it all back.  Again she was falling asleep while eating… recurring theme today…  bath for play, then bedtime routine.  CIO for one minute, stop, one minute, stop for ten minutes.  Then, out.
Praying that she doesn’t get in the habit of waking at 2:30!  If it happens tonight or really the rest of this week- we will likely console like last night.  I don’t think I’ll have the heart to make her CIO in the MOTN knowing that I am also going back to work Wednesday. L

10-3-10

Hit the jackpot again- STTN!
5:40 woke up happy, ate, and played with us in the bed.
8:00ish woke up again- Joe held her and got her back to sleep, then laid her in the bed beside me to finish off her first nap of the day .
9:00 woke up happy again, ate, played with Grammie K, then she rocker her to sleep.,
11:45 woke a little fussy, ate, played.  12:55 laid down and CIO for 40 minutes
2:10 woke up crying with eyes closed for five minutes, then opened them. I comforted here and she began to CIO from 2:15-2:25., then I couldn’t take it anymore. I put her in the swing.  She eventually fell asleep (close to the next feedint time- OF COURSE) maybe 2:45?
3:10 I woke her up, she ate, and played very well on the blanket, then I tried to put her in the play yard with the dangly things.  She really seemed to like it this time.  I laid beside her and sorted coupons.  When she began to get fussy, I kicked it in high gear and we headed out to grocery shop and go to the fair grounds.  Fell asleep on the way to the natural foods store (4:00 ish), and slept while there, then on the way to Walmart.  Woke up in walmart happy as a clam.  Talked to herself the whole time.   I had a cold bottle with me, so I went by Starbucks and got a Carmel Apple Spice for me and a Venti Hot Water for her J
5:55 Feed at the Fairgrounds while Cheerleaders warmed up. Awake and Alert.  Let a couple of the girls and moms hold her.  Fell asleep with Jody Hurley holding her, then stayed asleep while being laid down in stroller when time to go (7:00).  Not very happy with getting transferred to Car Seat (7:30 ish).  Woke up when we got home, Joe held her til next feeding time
8:30 feed, bath with soap, bedtime routine, CIO not long.

10-2-10

Exhausted, so this isnt going to be as detailed as normal...

SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT!!!!!! (Hereafter referred to as STTN)

At first I set an alarm to dream feed her at 1:30 so that she would sleep til 6, when she is supposed to eat.  But, I decided I wanted to see how long she would go...
5:15 awake to a very happy mommy and daddy.  We even had some happy wake time, put her back down- fussed a little, but not bad.

I left at 8:10 for Pepperell competition, so the next couple are estimates...
8:45/9- ate, back down CIO slept and cried off and on through most of nap- maybe one 30 minute stretch of good sleep.
11:30ish- ate, CIO for a little while, Grammie K and Aunt Chelsea to the rescue- rocked her.
According to Joe, GK and AC, Addison was fussy throughout the afternoon.

2:30- mommy home just as she was waking up.  Fed her (but I had pumped recently, so she got one supplemental ounce from a bottle), bad diapers :) went on a walk with Grammie K and Daddy, came back and fell asleep in Joe's arms around 4:05, at 5, he put her down in the bassinet, slept til about 6

6:00 feeding, awake and happy, went to Moes, fell asleep in carrier there.  Cat napped.

8:45 feeding, bath/water play, bedtime routine.
9:30 I walked out of the bedroom.  She fought sleep for about thirty minutes, so she was truly asleep by 10:00.

Crossing our fingers and saying a prayer for a similar night to last night!

10-1-10

2:30 MOTN feeding, wide awake because diaper had to be changed, cio’ed for 10-15 minutes (I was dozing… not 100% sure of the time)
6:05 First Feed, did NOT want to wake up.  After 20 mins of stretching and grunting, I let her go back down.  No crying, just a little more grunting and right back to sleep.
8:45 Feeding, good wake time, nap at 9:35 CIO for 20 mins, woke up at 11:10- I went in to comfort but seemed to make it worse.  CIO and Sleep off and on for the next thirty minutes
11:48 Feeding, good wake time, down at 12:28 CIO until 12:43 quiet, 12:45 wimpering, then asleep, 1:30 began to cry in her sleep.  I observed from the doorway and she had her eyes closed the whole time.  I think she was just in a light phase of sleep.  Asleep again in 5 minutes, but then did the same off and on for the next… 30-45 minutes.
2:45 I got her up when she started to wimper again.  I entertained until closer to 3.
3:00 feeding, walked to Post office to get mail, then to cheerleading.  I kept her seet inclined in the stroller for the first time.  This seemed to keep her from going to sleep- which I was aiming for.
We then went to cheerleading practice where she was alert, awake, and happy for a while.  Kristi Smallwood held her and played with her, then she went to sleep in her arms.
At about 4:45, MS was dong practicing, so Kristi left.  I took Addison and held her through the rest of Varsity practice- she was awake.
After practice while I was talking to Ashley, I swayed back and forth and she went to sleep.  I passed her off to Joe at 5:30 and I went to meet friends.
She stayed asleep for another 5 or so minutes, then fussed.
6:00 feeding from bottle, fusssyyyyy
7:00 Joe put her down, but she screamed the whole time, he picked her up after thirty minutes, but she was still crying when I came home at 5 til 8
I swayed and got her to go to sleep at 8:15 and let her cat nap until 8:45.  She then woke up on her own in my arms
8:45 feeding, bath, bedtime routine
Went down with NO CRYING at all. She was exhausted! I feel terrible that I messed with her schedule this afternoon/evening when I know that we are trying to train her L
I am sure tomorrow will be rough- I wont be home from 8:00-probably 2:00 or 3:00.  Hopefully Kathy, Chelsea, and Joe can hold each other accountable and not pick her up when she cries.

WHAT.A.DAY.
We are so unsure how it got to this point, but we had to start all over with the CIO at naptime/bedtime.  It has been absolutely exhausting!
Lately, Addi has been taking a paci to help soothe her to sleep.  Well, the past two days, it has literally been every five minutes of re-inserting paci.  Or, she wakes up mid nap and we put paci back in every five to ten minutes.  I finally decided this morning- NO MORE.  We cannot go running into her room every few minutes to reinsert that dang thing.  So, here was our day…
2 or 3 something this morning she was crying, and we got her back to sleep, five mins later, awake again, got her back to sleep.  On the third time- she went back to sleep.  I was expecting her to wake again at 4 as usual, but she didn’t wake again until 4:40.  This totally threw me off on what time to do her first feeding of the day because that would have been a mere one hour and twenty minutes later.  I decided to push it back just a little… of course I overslept.  So…
4:40 feeding
7:00 feeding, kept her awake for a good little while.  We were very happy!
Down for a nap relatively easily
9:30 feeding (had to push back because of the previous late feeding)
Down for a nap and CIO off and on.  Awake again at 11- ugh- started letting her CIO again, gave in and went to swing.  This is where I decided enough was enough and we were making a change!
12:15 feeding (late again to adjust)
12:40 I put her down.  This is incredibly short wake time, but she didn’t sleep much in her last nap, so I adjusted.
Played happily for twenty minutes, then CIO began in FULL FORCE!  Cried for 20 minutes, woke up, cried for a bit longer, woke up… I had to leave at 2:00 to meet Caren, so I left Joe with instructions not to rescue her if he could handle it.  He was incredibly sad looking when I left, but assured me that he would do his best.  (I noticed the couple of times I did go in there that as soon as she had me in her sights, she stopped crying- now I KNOW she is ok, just wants us L )
At 2:25, I was on my way home and knew that she had been crying the whole time.  I gave Joe the OK to go ahead and pick up.
2:30 feeding
2:55 put her back down CIO CIO CIO CIO CIO
I had to go to Cheerleading, so I again gave Joe my prayers and left him.  I knew this would be hard. Told him to try to make it one hour and then I would understand if he rescued her instead of letting her cry for the full two hours.  I hadn’t done that in all my days home with her- how could I expect him to do it?
He made it until 30 minutes and couldn’t take it anymore.  I don’t blame him.  She slept on him the remainder of the time.  He said that if he even tilted her away from his body she would scream- so again we were confirmed our belief that she was just wanting us, there is nothing wrong with her.  We are doing the right thing (or at least this is our mantra for the next couple of days!)
5:30 Joe fed her a bottle
6:11 put her down- CIO CIO CIO.  By 6:41 she was crying in ten minute cycles (you could tell she was losing steam after this day long fight).  6:51 cry 7:01 cry, finally slept for a chunk of time from about 7:11-7:31.  I was planning to feed at 7:45, so I went ahead and got her up at 7:40.
7:45 feed, very happy when Joe and I were interacting with her- GOOD- SHE STILL LOVES US!!! J
Bath
Bedtime Routine
8:35 put her down
CIO for thirty minutes- we are getting better!
10:45 Dream Feed, went beautifully and right back down to sleep.
Hopefully we will remember all this tomorrow and not have to start all over again with 2 hours straight of crying!  (we meaning Addison!)
I just PRAY like crazy that Joe and I have the strength to see this through! (and Kathy, Chelsea, and maybe Clint are coming tomorrow night… this means I really really have to be the bad guy and enforce them not rescuing her too J )

9-29-10

6:40 Very late on the feeding, we were so tired
tried to do awake time, she wasnt having it and neither was i
after I put her down- didn't peep
8:45 She woke on her own to feed
two poopy diapers
very happy girl
After putting her down at 9:43 (no yawns- I just made the exec decision), she played in her crib happily for 25 more minutes!  Then CIO for about 10 minutes.
Woke at 11:05, tried twice to comfort back to sleep- but then Daddy came home and we were gettng ready to go eat lunch, so we held her
12:00 feeding at Harvest Moon- bottle
nap
2:25 feeding
3:00 Dr's appt- didnt see doc until almost 4:00!
fell asleep in the car, but that was the only nap (20 mins) she got this round!
5:00 feeding, then went to Schroders with me to Thank Debbie for subbing.  She was so tired, she slept in the car and nearly the WHOLE time we were at Schroders (in her car seat- strapped in! You know she was tired!!!)
7:15 returend home, I went ahead and fed her since her last two naps were not normal.  Good feeding, Bath, Massage, bed. Played in bed for a good 20 mins before CIO for 20 mins (comforted at 8 mins, then comforted at the next 10)
11:00 Dreamfeed

8 week Summary

I have not been as good about blogging since coming home from my parents house.  I am so easily distracted here!  Even though it's 4 days after she has been 9 weeks old.  I will try my best to do an accurate description of how week 8 went...

Nursing
Nursing continues to o well.  We have been trying to give her a bottle once per day (breastmilk) in order to ease her into what will be three feedings from a bottle once she starts going to the sitter.

Waketime Length
Began to realize that I was keeping her awake too long (total of one hour).  I have backed it down to the very first yawn, which is between 35 and 45 minutes.  This seems to be helping her go to sleep.

Nighttime Length
Cannot really make a general statement here.  We started a new strategy this week.  Addison was sleeping through the night with only 2 feedings.  Now, I am attempting to put her down, dreamfeed her at 10:30, then she wakes on her own around 4, then I wake her at 6.  Seems to be going pretty well- I just have to be sure that she gets plenty to eat at the Dream Feed so that she makes it to at least 4.  Hoping to drop that 4 am feeding in a couple of weeks' time.

Growth
It seems that she grows every single day!  Anxious to see what the doctor will say that she weighs next week!  We are guessing 11 pounds and thinking that her height is now around 23 inches.

Swaddling
Still swaddling her to sleep.  She hates it at first, and adamently begins to get that left arm out (last one swaddled, easiest to escape).  I am toying with the thought of not even wrapping that one up anymore, or even not swaddling her at all.  Thursday night, I gave it a shot- but she seemed to wake more often.  Not sure if this is because of our drive home from Metter that night, or if it had to do with the absence of swaddle?  Went back to swaddling for the time being.

Wonder Week
It's wonder week 8.  I am just hearing about these WW's.  I want to get the book, I think.  She has been waking out of naps after only one hour.  Some people in the Babywise google group seem to think it could be because of Wonder Week 8 (Patterns).  I am not sure?

Our Schedule
Again- this is our first week of really trying to schedule.  At first, I was going to try a straight 3 hour schedule.  Then, I found a recommendation on the Chronicles of a Babywise Mom sight and revamped.  Here is our GOAL:
6am feed, swing so mommy can eat breakfast, nap (eventually to sitter)
9am feed, independent play (blanket), nap
12pm feed, playtime, nap
2:30 feed, afternoon errand or outing, nap (eventually home from sitter)
5:00 feed, family time, nap
7:30 feed, bath, bedtime routine
10:30 DreamFeed

Outings/Events
Very busy week!  Traveled to Metter just Mommy and Addi! Trip went really well.  On the way down, she only woke once to eat in Macon- right on time!
Tuesday, we met ALL kinds of new people, and some repeats. (Donnie, Connie, Travers, Lily, Amanda, Laura, Ben, Ellie, Paul, Frank, Kristy, Jessie, Anna)  AND we went to Hancock Fabrics, JoAnn's, Cheddars, and the ballpark to watch Pappa and Uncle Logan play softball.  It was EXHAUSTING!
Thursday, made the trip home and stopped at Cracker Barrel to eat.  God was watching out for me because she was an ANGEL while we ate by ourselves.  Took her bottle, sat in her seat while I ate, angel, angel, angel!
Friday night she had a sitter for the first time.  Joe was not back from out of town, and I had a football game.  Terry came and watched her until Joe got back.  It went well :)
Saturday night we went to Johnny's Pizza to watch our stinky dawgs play (loss to Mississippi State!) and hang out with Barry, Holly, Matt, Tiffany, Tripp, Brittany...Did great there too.  Even fell asleep for the night and sat in her carrier!

9-21-10 Sorry baby!

OK- so today I totally stressed my little Addison out :( I paid for it at her bedtime!

10:30 Dreamfeed- first TRUE dreamfeed.  I was amazed at what she did while still asleep.
right back down
11:55 woke to feed- I must not have pushed her hard enough to eat during the dreamfeed.  Learning.
right back down
3:15 woke to feed
6:15 Feed
we stayed awake and played.  She was incredibly happy!  Got a super cute picture to send to Joe while out of town :) She was trying hard to suck her hand/thumb but was so busy smiling she couldn't.
6:45 back down after yawns
9:00 woke to feed (she was making suckling noises in her sleep, so I went ahead and got her up)
stayed awake while I packed stuff for a day trip.  Laid on Nana's bed while I folded clothes and got ready.
9:40 she began to fuss and we were about ready to leave
9:45- in the car and fussing to go t osleep until 10:15 when we FINALLY got on the interstate- a fussy infant + road construction= an unhappy mommy!
11:30 woke when we arrived at Amanda's house.
stayed awake while mean ole mommy made her wait to eat.  Had to be bounced, walked, swayed to keep from wailing!
11:55 I broke and fed her
12:30 back in the car traveled to Cheddar's for lunch- stayed awake until we got there (12:45ish)
12:50 fell asleep while I held her at hte table
Then, I laid her down in her carrier. She slept the whole time we ate, I was suprised
Woke and fussed a little while we buckled, but went back to sleep
2:15 woke as I put her carrier in the buggy at JoAnn's fabrics and crafts
went back to sleep with me swaying her in my arms.
3:00 fed in the car (late)
3:30 back to sleep as we started moving in the car again
4:30 woke as we stopped at McDonald's for Amanda's addiction! then as we arrived at Laura's
5:00 fed from bottle (early)
diaper EXPLOSION!
5:50 back to sleep when we got in the car
6:30 woke as we arrived at Amanda's- again I made her wait to eat and swayed with her
7:15 I fed her (early, but from a very full source!)
7:45 fell asleep in the car
8:00 woke as we arrived at Frank & Kristy's
stayed awake through our visit
8:30 MAD little girl as we loaded the car.
she screamed and cried all the way to the ballpark to watch Pappa and Uncle Logan play softball
8:40 got her out of the car and saw that she had scratched her face in her little fit :(
8:45 fell asleep in my arms at the ballpark
we stayed and watched long enough to know that their "Hidden Talent" team has NO hidden talent :)
slept through me putting her back in the car seat, going in the gas station, pumping gas, and getting on the road again!
9:55 woke up in the car mad again that she was strapped down :(
I sang As the Deer (our new night time routine song) about 153 times until we got to Nana & Pappa's at 10:15.
10:15 fed
she was gross because it was bath day anyway, but also from all of the days activities, hands on her, and being at the ballpark- so I bathed her even though this should have been her "dreamfeed" time.
11:00 Put her down for the night.  She CIO-ed for less than 5 minutes (to Nanna's disappointment- she was just SURE she was going to get to rescue her and rock her... which I told her she could do if she cried more than 10 mins, I felt like I had made that baby suffer enough!!!)

Whew!  I was exhausted after this day- I felt terrible for doing this to her.  I will think twice before making THAT kind of day trip again.

9-20-10

Last night was AWESOME! So proud of Miss Addison!

10:00 dreamfeed
straight to bed, no fussing
3:10 stirred, and I picked her up and quickly realized she could still sleep, so I laid her beside me and she slept until 3:50.
3:50 MOTN feed
straight to bed, no fussing
6:00 woke on her own, feed
kept her awake until first yawn
6:35 put her back down- less than five minutes of wimpering
9:00 woke on her own, feed
played. yawned at 9:30, but I second guessed the cue and kept her up until 9:45
put her to bed, she cried for 8 minutes
woke 10:05, 10:15 and put her self back to sleep- likely just a light sleep phase, but I went in and laid in the bed where I could watch and see why she was waking.  It seems that it was her arm out of her swaddle, when she would lay it down beside her she would jump.  I wrapped arm back in, gave paci, and rubbed her tummy at 10:20.  Slept after that.
Woke at 11:15
11:50 feed (fussy the whole time she was awake, including the feed)
12:30 put down for a nap (after 2 yawns)
1:25 woke up
Nana picked her up and held her to go back to sleep
2:30 woke on her own
Nana walked outside with her
4:10 went to sleep while being rocked
5:00 woke on her own to eat- Nana gave her a bottle, finished 4 ounces
5:30 put her down
screamed bloody murder.  I went in twice, but to no comfort.  Finally gave in and held her so she could get some rest.
7:00 woke on her own, nursed
7:45 put her down following new bedtime routine (sans bath tonight)
cried for 10 minutes, I comforted, and then she fell asleep.
Planning to Dreamfeed at 10:30

Already seeing improvements from this schedule!  So excited about it.
Joe is out of town, I wonder if she was so bad at that 5:30 nap because she is use to Daddy putting her to sleep in the glider at this nap. Sweet Angel!

Schedule, not Pattern

Ok, the more I read about Babywise scheduling- I realize that I have not had her on a schedule, but rather a pattern.  I have been worried about 2.5 or 3 hours, instead of what time of day she eats.  Realizing that I only have 16 days left to be with her consistently, I want that schedule set!

Recommendations I have read suggest the following steps... Here goes!

Pick a Waketime: Considering my work schedule- I will have to be at work at 7:40.  This means I will have to get her to a sitter around 7:30, leaving my house around 7:15. SO- I am thinking that I want to feed her, lay her down for independent play on a blanket, then start her first nap of the day in the car seat on the way to the sitter.  For this to be an hour of wake time, I will need to wake her up at 6:00 and begin nursing at 6:15.

Pick your bedtime: Bedtime should be 10-12 hours before wake time... so, 12 hours would be 6:15pm.  10 hours would be 8:15.  Considering I don't even get done with cheerleading until 6- let's go with 8:15.

Set your feedtimes: I want her to nurse her before she goes to bed, and I would like nurse her when I come home from work, but I don't know if that will work during cheerleading season because I wont even get home until after 6.  So, let's say one feeding at 7:15pm.  Back that up 2.5 hours and she can eat at 4:45pm.  That should be right after one of us gets her from the sitter, if I have a good understanding of the way these sitters work. Now, I want to work forward from the morning feed... They say the first nap is usually a good one, so let's say she can eat at 9:15, which will be 3 hours after that first feed.  Two more feedings should go in between that 9:15 and 4:45... So, 12:00 and 2:30??? Dreamfeed sometime between 10 and 11.  Let's start with 10:30

Figure waketimes: At this point, Addison is generally awake for exactly one hour after she STARTS feeding when she starts yawning and fussing a little.  So, I will set naptimes (next step) based on how long she will likely stay awake.

Figure naptimes: Instead of writing it down, I am going to just type up the whole schedule based on what I have done above:
6:00 WAKE
6:15 nurse
7:15 nap- leave for sitters
9:15 bottle @ sitters
10:15 nap
12:00 bottle @ sitters
1:00 nap
2:30 bottle @ sitters
3:30 nap
4:45 nurse or bottle
5:45 nap
7:00 nurse
bathtime & bedtime routine
8:00 bedtime
10:30 dreamfeed
Middle of the night feed until she starts sleeping through the night

Let's see how it goes!

Having Second thoughts about those late afternoon/early evening times!  Maybe 5:00 and 7:30.  That way none of htem are less than 2 hrs.
